The Education, Sports and CTE Committee heard a presentation June 18 from Jamie Henson and Susan Hines of Crye‑Leike Commercial Realtors on marketing options for surplus district properties and voted to forward consideration of professional representation to the full Board.
Henson and Hines outlined their commercial experience and a marketing approach that includes multiple listing platforms, professional photography and aerial imaging, comparative market analysis, broker outreach and targeted solicitation of prospective buyers. The presentation focused on the former school property at 5245 Highway 70, described as roughly 28,000 square feet on about 8.61 acres, with an adjacent tract bringing the total acreage to approximately 19 acres.
Presenters said the site’s proximity to Interstate 40, BlueOval City and other regional economic developments could support a range of uses — industrial flex, office, educational, religious or mixed use — depending on zoning and market demand. Ms. Hines said the firm would conduct site visits and market analysis and consult with local officials about zoning and future development plans before recommending listing prices and marketing strategies.
Board members asked whether other real estate firms would be invited to present; Chairman Warner Speakman said the item would be forwarded to the full Board for further discussion, including the possibility of issuing a Request for Proposals. The committee approved a motion to send the matter to the full Board (motion carried 2–1).
