Finance update: Fayette County committees recommend two budget amendments and back pay for Executive Committee chair

Finance Director Arianna Elliott briefed the Budget, Finance, Transportation, Plant Operations and IT Committee on the district’s January financial report, saying most accounts are performing within expected ranges though some expenditure categories are trending higher; the fiscal year is approximately 58% complete.
The committee reviewed two proposed budget amendments: (1) an approximately $10,000 addition to the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Perkins Grant (Fund 141) described as state funding, and (2) approximately $47,000 in additional federal funding for Pre-K Special Education (Fund 142). Elliott said the amendments involve additional federal and state funding and do not affect the district’s fund balance. Adam Fearon moved to recommend approval of the amendments to the full Board, Merrel Miller seconded, and the committee carried the motion unanimously.
The committee also addressed compensation for Executive Committee chair meetings. Dr. McPherson noted the item had been referred to the wrong committee previously and that historical records show earlier Executive Committee chairs received compensation for meetings. The committee discussed a proposed payment of $75 per Executive Committee meeting beginning in February and recommended approval of back pay to the current chairman, estimated between $1,000 and $1,200 based on prior service; Adam Fearon moved to recommend approval of the chairman’s back pay, Merrel Miller seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
Committee members indicated several budget amendments will be presented at the following month’s meeting and that staff will continue reviewing categories with higher-than-expected spending.
