Fayette County Schools to administer ACT WorkKeys to all seniors this spring

Dr. Don McPherson presented an overview of the ACT WorkKeys assessment at the Education Committee meeting on Feb. 19, describing it as a career-readiness tool that measures workplace skills and awards nationally recognized credentials at Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum levels.
McPherson said the district plans to administer WorkKeys to all 12th-grade students in April or May and will use state funding to cover testing costs. He told board members the district intends to use results to expand career pathways through Career and Technical Education programs and to connect WorkKeys outcomes with existing STEM initiatives, including the district’s flight simulator.
Board members discussed the relationship between WorkKeys, STEM education and career pathways and asked staff to continue planning for logistics and student support. No formal vote was required for the presentation; the district will proceed with scheduling and funding using available state resources.
