Hawarden council appoints Jack Andela to zoning board, approves claims and two alcohol licenses

The appointment of Jack Andela to the Board of Zoning Adjustment was moved by Council Member Klocke and seconded by Council Member Allen; the council voted 5-0 to approve the appointment. The agenda lists the term as five years.
City Administrator Jacob Stoner explained a late-submitted claim related to construction of a new shelter before the council considered the claims for payment. Council Member Allen moved and Council Member Bouza seconded approval of the Feb. 11 claims; the motion passed 5-0.
On the consent agenda the council approved a renewal of a Class E retail alcohol license for Sunshine Foods, effective April 2, 2026, and granted a new Class C retail alcohol license for Old City Hall, effective Feb. 21, 2026. The consent agenda motion was moved by Council Member Allen, seconded by Council Member Schelling, and carried 5-0.
No public comments were recorded during the meeting. The council adjourned at 5:53 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for Feb. 25, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
