Muscoda board sets public hearing on 2% annual sanitary sewer rate increase

The Muscoda Village Board voted Nov. 11 to hold a public hearing on Dec. 2, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. to consider a proposed sanitary sewer rate increase of 2% each year for five years. Administrator Cinda Johnson presented auditor findings showing the sewer fund remains in deficit following the 2024 audit and explained three illustrative scenarios — 1%, 1.5% and 2% annual increases — to close the shortfall over five years.
Trustee Wiederholt moved and Trustee Meyer seconded the motion to set the public hearing on a 2% annual increase; the motion carried. If the board adopts the increase after the hearing, the new rates would go into effect with the February billing based on January usage.
Superintendent Wardell and the auditors provided the background that the sewer fund deficit remains after adjustments in the 2024 audit, and the board directed that community input be gathered at the Dec. 2 hearing before any rate change is finalized. The hearing will allow residents to ask about the projected impact on monthly meter and volume charges under the proposed schedule.
