At its March 5 meeting the Fayette County Public Schools Board handled routine business and approved several procedural motions unanimously.
Kevin Powers moved (seconded by Becky Trimm) to suspend the board policy requiring visual identification for remote participation after staff were unable to establish a video connection for Board Member Melanie McGuire; the motion passed. The Board also approved previous meeting minutes, the amended agenda and the Consent Agenda as amended in unanimous votes.
After committee reports and the Superintendent's update, the Board voted unanimously to add the sentence "Equal protection is extended to every religion" to Policy 4.100 and directed that legal counsel and the Tennessee School Boards Association review the amended language before returning it to committee for a second reading. Executive Committee business included the announcement that Board Attorney Tom Minor accepted a County Attorney position; the Board will advertise for a replacement and schedule an attorney-client privileged meeting after the expected DOJ visit related to the unitary status review. The meeting adjourned at 7:04 p.m.
