Fayette County reports roughly $600,000 available in CTE ISM grant; budget amendment planned

Dr. Don McPherson updated the Education, Sports and CTE Committee on the district's Career and Technical Education (CTE) Innovation School Model (ISM) grant, saying the grant supports innovative CTE programs at middle and high school levels and that approximately $600,000 in grant funds remain available for use during the current and upcoming school years.
Dr. McPherson said a portion of the funds will support planned CTE improvements and that "a budget amendment outlining these expenditures will be presented in April." He also described current initiatives including work with educational consultants, evaluation of expansion opportunities, and strengthened partnerships with the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT).
Committee members discussed funding for the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC). Dr. McPherson explained JROTC is not currently funded through Tennessee's education funding formula; members expressed support for continued advocacy to secure partial military funding if enrollment increases.
Chairman Warner Speakman expressed his support for the grant, saying it would help advance the Board's long-term CTE vision. No formal vote was taken on the ISM grant update; committee direction focused on refining plans and preparing a budget amendment for April Board consideration.
