Committees forward surplus property, JROTC trip and professional services contracts to full board
Summary
On Jan. 15, Fayette County committee members recommended forwarding surplus property designations, approved a JROTC overnight trip recommendation, and forwarded federally funded Kids First professional services contracts to the full board; a proposed retroactive compensation motion failed to get a second.
Multiple Fayette County Public Schools committees met Jan. 15 and recommended several items for full Board consideration while approving routine motions at the committee level.
The Education, Sports and CTE Committee reviewed several district-owned properties (Range Road, Midland Street records building, former Acid Elementary School, Spring Hill property, Northwest Elementary) and recommended surplus designation for forwarding to the full Board; the committee approved the motion. The same committee reviewed a Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps overnight trip to Philadelphia, Mississippi and forwarded a recommendation for Board approval; that motion was approved. A motion proposing retroactive compensation for the Executive Committee Chair was introduced but received no second, and no action was taken on that item.
The Budget, Finance, Transportation, Plant Operations and IT Committee reported that the district is in a positive financial position pending completion of the annual audit and that approximately half of the annual capital budget has been expended. The committee updated members on capital projects (classroom technology, access control, water bottle filling stations, HVAC, school buses and roof replacements) and discussed the implementation of the Athena routing system in Transportation, which the committee said should improve routing efficiency, reduce mileage and fuel costs, improve parent communication and enhance GPS tracking.
The Budget Committee also reviewed federally funded Kids First professional development contracts and recommended forwarding them to the Board; the motion was approved. Where committee votes were recorded, motions passed at the committee level and were forwarded to the full Board for formal consideration.
