The Abbeville City Council on July 14 presented plaques recognizing long service by council members and approved the appointment of an interim district councilman.
Mayor Anita Levy read a plaque honoring Colton Campbell for 18 years of service, thanking him for his “commitment, integrity, and unwavering devotion to public service.” Colton Campbell accepted the recognition and thanked colleagues and residents for their support.
The council moved to nominate and seat Billy Noble as interim councilman for District 8 after a nomination by a councilmember. Billy Noble took an oath to discharge the duties of the office and the council approved the appointment by voice vote.
The meeting also included brief remarks from other outgoing members and colleagues. A councilmember noted that only a few people had served in multiple seats over different periods, and several speakers expressed appreciation for decades of service.
The council ended the item and proceeded to routine business, including committee assignments and administrative appointments. The meeting record shows the plaque presentations and the interim appointment were completed during the meeting.
