Stevensville board renews suicide-risk screener partnership and approves HIPAA-compliant data storage

The Stevensville School Board voted to continue its partnership with the Rural Behavioral Health Institute (RBHI) to provide a suicide-risk screener for students in grades 6–12 and separately approved a data-privacy agreement authorizing RBHI to store data on the HIPAA-compliant Merit Solutions cloud.
Superintendent Tennis recommended renewing the MOU, noting the screener has been used for two prior years and has helped identify students in need. During public comment, a trustee recalled a parent describing how the screener led to timely help for a child. "If it hits one kid, that's huge," a trustee said in support of the program.
The board moved and approved the MOU and then approved a companion motion allowing RBHI to manage de-identified student data using Merit Solutions’ HIPAA cloud storage. Trustees said they had discussed data privacy and protections during a prior work session; RBHI and district staff were available to answer questions during the meeting.
Both motions passed by voice vote as recorded in the meeting minutes.
