Denton approves AED placement at Harrison Park as part of county trial

Denton commissioners on May 4 approved participation in a county trial to place automated external defibrillator (AED) units at Harrison Park and other public locations.
Manager Angel Jenkins said the trial — described as a randomized cluster evaluation of cardiac arrest systems — includes funding for AED units and public CPR training. Staff emphasized that the unit proposed for Harrison Park would be secured in an alarmed cabinet, under camera surveillance, and accompanied by public training and outreach. "They are also doing hands on CPR training for the public," staff said.
A motion to approve the placement and to help promote training was seconded and carried on a voice vote. Staff noted the trial includes additional locations on the north side of town and that the county program aims to train 10% of the county population as part of the rollout.
The board asked staff to coordinate installation logistics and signage; commissioners said they supported public outreach efforts.
