Public Art Commission approves consent agenda, hears updates on cabinet wraps, library garden and SR 88 roundabout

The Public Art Commission met on July 13, 2026, chaired by Danford, approved the consent agenda and set its next regular meeting for Monday, Aug. 10 at 5:30 p.m.

Commissioner Cooper opened discussion with a presentation of a recently unveiled sculpture called SWING at the entrance to the Muirfield Village Golf Club. "This project is called SWING," he said, noting the work was selected through a nationwide call and was a collaboration among a homeowner association, the Dublin Arts Council and the PGA. He said Ivan de Peña from North Carolina was selected and that the piece was timed to the 50th annual Memorial Tournament.

Erica reported several operational updates for commission projects. "We've been informed by the public works department that a number of the cabinets will be replaced, this fiscal year and next fiscal year," she said, and noted that replacement cabinets may require staff to select alternate locations for planned wraps. Erica confirmed Paige Reeser was chosen to design the Veterans Memorial traffic cabinet at the northeast corner of Idaho Road and Superstition Boulevard; Reeser will need to measure the new cabinet in person before starting work.

On the library garden, Erica said a three-person selection committee chose artist Fausto Fernandez, who has confirmed interest but has not yet returned a signed contract after legal review. On the SR 88 roundabout, she reported Karen Yank was selected from 113 applicants; "The budget for this project is 250,000," Erica said, and staff is coordinating with ADOT on a preferred 20-foot setback (ADOT would prefer 20 feet while a 10-foot setback was also discussed). Erica said staff expects an initial design in September and hopes for installation in fall 2027, pending final contract work.

Erica also reported that the current public art fund balance is "almost 640 thou," that staff is developing a boilerplate professional services agreement for traffic cabinet projects, and that Diane has signed an agreement through the 2026-27 fiscal year. She reminded commissioners that Parks and Recreation will host an art contest and gala at the MGC on Aug. 7 from 5 to 7 p.m., and discussed quorum and attendance protocol for commissioners who plan to attend.

Contracts for the library garden and the SR 88 roundabout remain under legal review; staff expects to return with final agreements before designs proceed. The meeting adjourned at 5:57 p.m.
