The Cameron County Board of Commissioners voted to allocate up to $5,000 from liquid-fuels funds to Lumber Township to cover winter-supply costs, contingent on the township submitting its actual expenses in writing. The board took the step after noting the county's liquid-fuels balance was limited.
Chair (speaker 1) moved to allocate up to $5,000 pending receipt of documentation of Lumber Township’s winter-supply expenses. The motion passed after a second and voice votes. Chief Clerk (speaker 3) noted the liquid-fuels account balance was “right now, it is 7,000 something,” and commissioners discussed prior awards of $5,000 to other municipalities and the risk of forced distribution of unused funds if not allocated.
Board members also reviewed a larger Lumber Township request for $28,000 to replace an F-550 dump truck and a related active request for truck repairs. Commissioners said the larger request lacked a break-out of winter-supply versus replacement costs, so by procedure they acknowledged receipt and tabled the $28,000 request for discussion at the first January meeting. The board followed similar procedure for a Portage Township Act 13 application requesting $10,000: it was acknowledged and slated to be handled according to the county’s established timeline.
The actions were procedural and aimed to allocate limited liquid-fuels funds before year-end while preserving review of larger equipment requests in January.
