Selectmen to hold public hearing on renaming portion of Old Tatnic Hill Road after delivery problems

The Board of Selectmen announced at its July 7 meeting that it will hold a public hearing to consider renaming a portion of Old Tatnic Hill Road. First Selectman Joe Bellavance told the board that town attorneys advised the Selectmen have authority to rename the portion in question and that the change would allow residents to weigh in during a public hearing.
Bellavance explained that UPS, Federal Express and other carriers have reported difficulty finding addresses when they are listed as Old Tatnic Hill Road, and he said he will consult the Post Office about delivery and addressing implications before the hearing. He described the roadway layout, referenced old deeds, and noted a housing development and six homes being built on the affected section.
Resident N. Neborsky asked whether Old Tatnic Hill Road will be completed to his property from Mason Road; Bellavance said Attorney Kelly is investigating road ownership and expects to present findings by the end of the month. The board did not take formal action to rename the road at the July 7 meeting; it set the process for a future public hearing and additional review.
The hearing will give neighbors and other stakeholders an opportunity to comment on the proposed renaming and on any access or addressing consequences; the Selectmen indicated they will present legal and logistics information at that time.
