Cameron County commissioners approve release of county cleaning RFP, OK $733.67 elevator repair and table Act 13 approval

Cameron County commissioners on a routine agenda Tuesday approved the public release of an RFP for county cleaning services, authorized a $733.67 vendor quote for an elevator repair and acknowledged an Act 13 funding request that the board moved to table until its first‑quarter meeting on April 2.

The chair introduced the cleaning‑services item, saying the county’s "current contract is up with our current cleaning agency" and that staff had prepared language for public notice. Commissioner (speaker 2) moved to release the RFP and Commissioner (speaker 3) seconded; the board approved the release. According to the motion, proposals will be publicized immediately, with proposals due Feb. 19 and a February meeting scheduled to review submissions.

On a separate motion, the board approved a $733.67 quote from Eastern Elevator to install a new car‑top exhaust fan. The chair noted maintenance staff could obtain materials and perform the work but raised concerns about warranty and insurance implications if an internal employee performed the installation: "I would worry about any type of warranty issues or insurance matters that might trigger," the chair said. Commissioner (speaker 2) said he was reluctant but would second the motion, citing the long‑term cost and liability tradeoffs.

The commissioners also acknowledged receipt of an Act 13 grant request from the Sonoma County Volunteer Fire Department for $9,218.42 to buy rescue equipment including a stretcher, chainsaw, pagers, radios and helmets. The board voted to table final approval and consider the request at its April 2 first‑quarter meeting when requests are reviewed.
