Local task force seeks interest in bereavement support and lists training and summit dates

A Cameron County official and member of the Cameron/Elk suicide-prevention task force asked residents to contact the county if they want a local bereavement support group, and announced short-term training and summit events for mental-health outreach.

S1 said the task force discussed the absence of a local bereavement support group (noting one exists in DuBois) and that she will gauge community interest, including outreach via social media. She provided event details for a QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training scheduled for Sept. 11 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the public library and said a mental-health summit is set for Sept. 18 (the location was unclear during the meeting). "If anybody feels that there is a need, you can reach out to me directly," S1 said.

S1 also briefed the board on a recent CYS needs-based hearing that highlighted the complexity and cost of placing certain children; she described an instance where a child with aggressive behavior required placement near Philadelphia at an expense she said approached $500 per day.

Speakers encouraged community participation in trainings and local events tied to mental-health outreach. County officials noted they will circulate flyers and event information, and S1 said she had printed flyers available for attendees.
