Recreation revitalization project goes to bid as county pursues tourism and grants

Cameron County officials said plans for a recreation revitalization project funded by a federal V-grant are complete and will be sent to contractors for bidding, and described concurrent efforts to use grants and regional partnerships to promote tourism and local economic activity.

S3 said the plans for the V-grant-funded recreation project "are done" and that requests for bids will be mailed to the county's vendor list this week; contractors not on the vendor list can request inclusion to receive solicitation packages. "They'll be getting sent out to contractors and everything," S3 said.

The discussion also covered plans to coordinate grant workshops with the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and regional partners to educate nonprofits and municipalities about the Neighborhood Assistance Program and other funding tools, with dates targeted for October. S3 said the workshop will include timing, best practices and ways to draft applications that better align with local needs.

Separately, S2 described efforts to partner with PA Wilds on destination-marketing and a bike-packing route in early October timed for fall foliage and elk-bugling season; S2 proposed producing short video reels and suggested that targeted marketing and content creation could attract visitors and entrepreneurs to the area.

County officials said these initiatives are part of a broader effort to use grant funding, physical improvements and marketing to support local recreation and to create pull factors for visitors and potential new residents.
