The Governor Wentworth Regional School Board on Dec. 8 held a public hearing on its preliminary FY2027 budget and heard community questions about transparency in budget line items and proposed staffing changes.
Board Chair Brodie Deshaies reviewed enrollment trends, general fund items, proposed new staff requests, debt service and planned warrant articles before opening the hearing to public comment. Resident Carolyn D'Angelo of Wolfeboro requested a copy of the night's presentation and asked whether enrollment figures and district funding are affected by home education students. Resident Stefanie King of New Durham asked that proposed warrant articles be listed on the budget handout, whether the district's new nursing plan provides one nurse per school, and requested that budget line 320 be broken out with more detail.
Board members later questioned the transparency of budget line 320, sought the cost and percentage impact of the warrant articles, asked about maintenance staffing levels and pressed for clarifications on Special Education costs. District administrators indicated the budget was developed through building- and district-level meetings and reviewed revenue sources and timelines for the warrant process; the transcript records the board requesting more detailed breakout information but does not record final amended numbers.
The hearing closed at 8:31 p.m. The board has not adopted the final FY2027 budget; next steps identified during the meeting include providing the presentation to residents on request, clarifying the components of line 320, and carrying further budget discussion into upcoming finance and committee meetings.
