Director of Schools Dr. Scott Langford told the Sumner County Education Committee on Feb. 2 that he hopes schools will reopen on Wednesday after Winter Storm Fern disrupted classes.
Dr. Scott Langford, Director of Schools, said the district made good progress on athletics projects before the storm but that the weather interrupted work schedules. He noted that, unlike full-time teachers who work under contract, part-time employees are not contracted and therefore do not receive pay when they miss work due to weather-related closures; the committee recorded this personnel-policy clarification as part of the athletics update.
Langford also reported there was no new information to provide on the Innovation Center and that Chairman Danny Sullivan requested the athletics and Innovation Center items remain on the committee's agenda for the next meeting.
The Committee took no formal vote on instructional calendar changes at the Feb. 2 meeting; members received the Director's updates for information. The Committee adjourned at 6:35 p.m.
