Arts staff outlines spending plan, Pride timing and McCaw award process; senior art ceremony set for May 30

Keisha, arts office staff, reported the MCA's independent checking account balance and outlined near-term event and awards work, telling commissioners the account holds about $12,000 and is intended to be spent down on community arts projects.
"The balance now is at about $12,000, and that has to be spent down," Keisha said, explaining the funds were donated over several decades and should be used to support projects without depleting the entire account. She urged commissioners to consider targeted uses and to discuss a funding approach for "bridal" programming and Pride at the next meeting.
Keisha asked the commission to place Pride on the April agenda so the commission could consider a sponsorship decision after a presentation from the LGBTQI+ Commission. When she asked Council member Kovac whether there was a deadline for sponsorships, Kovac said there is no donation deadline for services or sponsorship and offered to present Pride plans next month to provide more detail.
Staff also asked the public art committee to review works at Zilke Gallery for the McCaw Award and said she photographed the collection and will make images available for committee review before the April meeting. The McCaw Award scholarship ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 30; commissioners volunteered to speak on behalf of the award and staff said more participants were welcome.
Keisha said the senior art award ceremony is a morning event and asked for volunteers to attend and present. The commission confirmed its next meeting on April 24, when the bridal and Pride items are expected to be discussed in greater detail.
