Middletown council approves transition to Middletown Sustainability Commission after public support

Kristen Colombo and Krishna Winston (who read a statement from Resource Recycling Advisory Commission member Daniel Schott) urged the council to approve the ordinance, stressing sustainability’s three pillars — economy, equity and environment — and describing the commission’s role in education, outreach, collaboration with departments and monitoring state-level policies such as extended producer responsibility. "Approving the transition to the Middletown Sustainability Commission builds on years of leadership," Kristen Colombo said.
Councilmember Ford introduced the ordinance and the body adopted it by voice vote. The ordinance establishes the commission as an advisory body to the council and mayor, provides for two councilmembers to serve on the commission and lists expected functions such as outreach, program support and coordination with city departments.
