Commissioners outline interactive ideas for Carmel's 110th anniversary celebration

Commissioner Ellen Martin (ad hoc committee member) said organizers are coordinating with the Sunset Center for entertainment, the Lions Club for food service, and the library for historical displays. Proposed activities include an interactive, multi-decade oral-history table (two-minute recordings by residents), a two-tiered paper-mache cake featuring iconic buildings, a fairy-tale putt-putt activity, children's crafts (crowns), face painting, and a community "love-letter" wall where attendees can post notes about what they love about Carmel.
"We're trying to create an interactive approach so that people can go listen to this," the chair said, describing recorded stories organized by decade. The ad hoc committee plans to reach out to local arts groups and the Chamber to expand participation. The event was tentatively scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; some logistics (performers, staging) remain in planning.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about parade routing (Halloween parade on Bridal) and confirmed logistics will be refined with staff as Leslie Fenton returns from leave. The ad hoc committee will report progress monthly to keep the community informed.
