The Francestown Recreation Committee confirmed plans on June 3 for a July 3 concert that will include the Molly Stark cannon firing three shots and a 7 p.m. band performance.
Committee members recorded that the cannon will be located at the soccer field to coincide with the band concert. The minutes state there was a $300 shortfall to secure the cannon; Bob Bitterli, David Leard and Paula Briggs each agreed to contribute $100 to cover the gap. The committee said three Francestown volunteers will be needed to light the cannon during the event.
The emcee will introduce the color guard and the committee is working to have local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts present the colors. The committee also confirmed the program will include the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem; the New Hampshire anthem may also be played. The band is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
Committee members discussed logistical details for the July 4 celebration—reusing last year’s schedule for games and activities, arranging banners and a special tri-fold flyer for distribution prior to the event, and placing flags around town. The group assigned responsibilities for food service and kid activities, and noted donation buckets will be available at the food table and the skate park.
The committee set a follow-up meeting for June 15 to finalize July 4 arrangements and asked members to bring volunteers.
