Commission orders stop-sign relocation after road-safety review in Color Country subdivision

Kane County commissioners voted to move a three-way stop sign on Redwood Road in the Color Country subdivision after roads staff and law-enforcement input.
Roads director Bert Harris told the commission the existing stop at Arapahoe is on a steep grade; in summer he observed heavy vehicles struggling to restart after stopping and said winter conditions could make the intersection hazardous. Harris recommended relocating the stop to Henry Road, which he described as a flatter, more practical location for a four-way stop that would still provide a turnout for traffic control.
Sheriff's staff and other road professionals confirmed that stopping vehicles on the steep grade at Arapahoe is undesirable and that Henry is the preferable site if a stop is to remain on Redwood. Commissioners discussed alternatives such as engineering studies and pointed out that speed studies often validate resident complaints but can be costly. After brief discussion the commission moved the stop sign as recommended and recorded unanimous approval.
Staff will coordinate signage removal and replacement and monitor the area for enforcement and ongoing safety concerns.
