Kane County approves $1.803 million GMP for Office of Tourism remodel

"We've gone from 2.2, 2.3 down to 1.8," Henke said, explaining that the team accounted for detailed line items to minimize contingency.
County staff described the CMGC (construction manager/general contractor) delivery method used on recent county projects. A staff presenter noted that the CMGC approach requires extra coordination early in the project so the contractor shares risk once the GMP is signed.
Motion and vote: Commissioner (S5) moved to approve the GMP as presented; the motion carried unanimously. The record shows the final GMP amount as $1,803,237.75; staff indicated soft costs such as engineering fees and furnishings could be covered from the tourism budget.
Why it matters: county officials said the remodeled facility will function as both the county’s tourism office and a staffed visitor center with electronic kiosks to reduce printing costs and extend service hours. Commissioners expressed confidence in the team's cost exercises and in-house construction management support from the sheriff's buildings and grounds staff.
