Kane County accepts incumbent EMS providers after two‑zone RFP; commission votes unanimously

Kane County commissioners on Oct. 14 accepted the results of a statutorily required request‑for‑proposals process for emergency medical services, maintaining the status quo as the county transitions to a two‑zone service structure.
County staff said Senate Bill 215 required the procurement. The county split service into two geographic zones: Zone 1 (Greater Kane County, including Kanab and the valley) and Zone 2 (the Cedar Mountain/Cedar Mountain service area). In each zone the incumbent provider was the only bidder: the Kane County Hospital District for Zone 1 and the Cedar Mountain Service District for Zone 2.
Commissioners and staff described the RFP as a first‑in‑the‑state process for rural counties and recommended accepting the single‑bid outcomes rather than re‑advertising. The commission approved a motion to accept the bid awards unanimously.
Staff said municipalities and service districts helped draft and review the RFP and that municipalities would submit formal letters ratifying the selections. County staff also noted the engagement of a consultant studying countywide fire and EMS options; that consultant has interviewed stakeholders and is expected to provide recommendations in the coming month.
The commission's action accepts the bidders' awards; no new multi‑year contract terms were presented at the meeting. County leaders said the awards are intended to preserve existing service levels while staff and consultants explore longer‑term countywide solutions.
