Nelson resident says nonresident bus pickups are delaying local students

B. Dunn, a Nelson resident, told the Select Board at its March 4 meeting that Nelson students who attend Keene Middle and High schools are arriving late because two nonresident children are being picked up in Nelson and delivered to their schools ahead of the local students. Dunn said he had raised the matter with the School Board chair and would follow up.
The Select Board said it could not offer a concrete remedy because decisions about school bus routes and individual pickup arrangements are handled by the School Board or the contracted bus company. Board members also noted that routing decisions sometimes reflect court orders or custody arrangements that are not public, which can limit the explanations available to affected families.
Dunn said the arrangement is creating stressful late arrivals for Nelson’s middle- and high-school students and that he will press the School Board for further discussion. The Select Board did not take formal action on the issue and directed Dunn to pursue the matter with the School Board and the bussing company.
