Board highlights student achievements, holiday artwork and nutrition award

The Dec. 16 Elizabeth City–Pasquotank Board of Education meeting featured multiple recognitions and student presentations.
Pasquotank County High School band director Nick Stanley recapped a competitive season that included three competitions, a first-place class sweep at Edenton and a third-place finish at Havelock; he also announced the band won first place in the Elizabeth City Christmas parade. "These students have worked outrageously hard," Stanley said. He thanked staff, parents and band assistants and noted the band’s fund-raising discount cards would be available during intermission.
Rachel Haynes and Tammy Reinhart highlighted the district’s school nutrition accomplishments: the department served more than 60,000 meals over the summer with 12,325 meals from the Pasquotank Public Library site alone and won the rural noncongregate innovation award (one of two districts in the state). Reinhart named staff members who supported the effort and said the library partnership expanded reading programming and participation.
Principals from several elementary schools presented student holiday artwork winners and central-school recognitions, including teacher and staff awards. Student board members reported DECA competition results (24 proficiency recipients and 13 series finalists), ROTC promotions and other extracurricular updates.
The board paused for a two-minute recess after the recognitions before moving on to business items.
