Conservation Commission flags encroachment concerns, plans forester visit and bylaws review

The Farmington Conservation Commission on May 14 discussed boundary concerns raised by NH Fish & Game for two town conservation parcels and set follow-up steps to document and correct encroachments.
Chairman Jim Pollard briefed members on a May 7 site visit with Lindsay Watkins that found evidence of abutters encroaching on the French and Dubois properties. Pollard said a resident encountered during the walk admitted he had been mowing into the Dubois parcel. Pollard said NH Fish & Game in Concord requested a professional forester verify and remark boundary lines; he said the commission has not engaged a forester in about six years and that Watkins will take photographs and draft a report to send to NH Fish & Game.
Members discussed timing and logistics for scheduling a forester on the town properties. Pollard said he will follow up with the front office to arrange Watkins’s return visit in June. The commission did not vote on contracting a forester at the meeting but identified it as a necessary next step to meet NH Fish & Game’s documentation requests.
Separately, Pollard asked members to read the Conservation Commission bylaws posted on the town website before the June 11 meeting. The suggested bylaws review will cover roles of alternates, notification procedures when members will miss meetings, and other procedural clarifications.
No formal decisions about contracting were made; the commission will await Watkins’s report and revisit options for hiring or engaging a forester at a later meeting.
