The Newfields Conservation Committee on Feb. 17 reviewed draft bylaw language addressing quorums, alternates and limits on consecutive officer terms and discussed onboarding materials for new members.
Members debated whether term limits should apply only to officers or to general membership. C. Shanelaris and T. Rettburg said limits for officers can safeguard governance while allowing experienced members to continue with unanimous support; C. McDade and others said limiting general membership might reduce continuity. T. Rettburg agreed to prepare a final draft for circulation and a vote at the March meeting.
The committee also discussed restarting inactive subcommittees, such as a Communications Committee, and reviewed the onboarding packet that Rettburg has assembled (maps, easements, monitoring report examples, policy documents and budget orientation). The draft bylaws will be circulated to members for review prior to the March meeting.
