Kellnersville utility staff report grease problem, hydrant fix and DNR push for regional sewer hookup

Utility operator Todd Lensmeyer told the Village Board on March 9 that crews found coagulated grease "cakes" in the pump section at the wastewater treatment plant and removed the material with a skimmer; pump #1 required disassembly for cleaning. Lensmeyer said WI Rural Water inspected the system and relayed that the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is encouraging Rockwell and surrounding municipalities, including Kellnersville, to consider hooking up to a proposed sewage line to Manitowoc.
Lensmeyer reported that the hydrant at the wastewater treatment plant had crumbled at the bottom and was replaced; "since it was replaced, we have reduced water loss by 7,000 gallons per day," he said. The board plans to replace the hydrant at 619 Sunset Drive next year.
The board also reviewed a planned catch-basin replacement at the intersection of County Trunk Highways K and T by Essential Sewer & Water for $13,000 in spring, and discussed the village's reclassification of remaining ARPA funds to complete a facility plan. Kevin Wagner of Ruekert-Mielke is slated to begin that project in 2026 so remaining ARPA funds can be expended before the 12/31/2026 deadline.
Separately, the board reviewed a Hydrocorp contract to perform five commercial and 10 residential cross-connection inspections for $1,617.10; the board discussed inspection cycles and whether local inspector John from Maribel Plumbing could be used instead. The board deferred a final decision on inspection scheduling until April.
