The Laurel Historic District Commission on Monday approved a certificate to update the awning signage at 322 Main Street.
Alexis Williams, Planner I with the city’s Department of Economic and Community Development, told the commission the existing awning reads, "The Driscoll Law Group workers compensation disability law, 322 Main, and Downs Law Firm, PC, estate planning and administration," and that the proposed wording will read, "K and T Security Services, 322 Main, and Downs Law Firm, PC." She said the sign frame will remain unchanged at about 60 feet wide by 52 inches tall, with a 24-inch projection and an 18-inch awning vinyl; the sign will remain black with white lettering. "Staff recommends the historic district commission approve certificate number HDCDashC20260081," Williams said.
A commissioner moved to approve the certificate; the motion was seconded and carried on a roll-call vote. The commission did not change the sign’s frame, color or overall placement.
The decision preserves the awning’s visual scale while allowing new tenant identification on Main Street. The certificate number was recorded in the meeting materials as HDCR 2026OO81 / HDCDashC20260081 (as presented by staff). The commission offered no conditions beyond the staff recommendation.
The commission moved on to other agenda items after the vote.
