Public works staff presented a written estimate from Galli Plumbing to replace the boiler’s internal controls and gas train after repeated startup problems, saying the vendor’s quote covers a comprehensive rebuild. The vendor estimate cited in the packet was just over $7,500 for the work, staff said.
Staff said they have had to restart the boiler several times since an internal rebuild and trained other employees, including police officers and administrative staff, on restart procedures so the system can be managed outside normal hours. "In your packet, you will see a quote from Galli Plumbing," the staff member said. Tal, a maintenance worker who inspected the unit on site, described the system as old and said the repairs require a licensed plumber rather than in-house maintenance. "It's so old, I would assume...we're just going backfires probably the high line control," Tal said.
Staff said the town could schedule a full replacement in next year’s budget to make the boiler essentially brand new, but acknowledged the system could fail beforehand. The staff recommendation was to keep the vendor estimate available and defer final replacement unless the boiler fails again, when immediate repair would be necessary. No formal action was taken at the meeting.
