The Village of Mattawan held candidate interviews for its vacant village manager position during a special council meeting on July 8, 2026. Erin Veysey was interviewed at 7:00 PM, Spencer Streeter at 7:30 PM and David Trent at 8:00 PM, according to the meeting minutes.
The meeting opened at 7:00 PM. Council President Stuut moved, and Member Begeman seconded, to excuse Member Gurley for a personal commitment and Member Streeter because Streeter was a candidate for the village manager position; all members voted in favor. The council then approved the meeting agenda on a motion by Member Begeman, seconded by Member Daniel.
After the interviews, the council discussed the candidates; the minutes state that an “extensive discussion about the candidates took place” but do not record direct quotes. Council President Stuut moved, and Member Daniel seconded, to set a special council meeting for July 14, 2026 at 7:00 PM to complete the annual employment review for department heads; the motion carried with all members voting in favor.
