Executive director reports financials, lease expiry and suggests permit model research

John Cothron, executive director of the Mississippi State Board of Architecture, reviewed administrative matters at the Jan. 23 meeting, including the second-quarter FY2025 financial report and upcoming external audits.
Mr. Cothron told members that the Office of the State Auditor will conduct audits of boards and commissions this year. He also reported that the Board’s office lease is set to expire in October 2025 and that he has contacted the landlord about a possible extension.
Members suggested the development of a model building permit for distribution to building officials by the State Fire Marshal’s Office or another entity; Mr. Cothron said he would research the idea and report back. The minutes list the lease expiration, the auditor activity and the direction to staff to research a model permit as administrative follow-ups.
The board received brief NCARB committee updates later in the meeting and agreed to await NCARB guidance before changing reciprocity language.
