Juneau committee sets up new YouTube channel, plans camera and equipment upgrades for public-access broadcasts

The Juneau Cable TV Committee met Jan. 13, 2025, and approved its agenda and the Aug. 19, 2024 minutes before discussing several technical and operational updates to the city’s public-access broadcasting.

Committee members said they were unable to recover passwords for the previous channel and established a new YouTube channel to restore online streaming. The committee plans to use OWLS as web cameras and to ‘‘dual film’’ during tests to validate the new setup; members estimated the system could be operational within about one to two months. Kay Marose listed equipment needs as extension cords, a tripod and a microphone assessment to determine whether additional audio gear is required.

The committee also noted recurring technical problems with the current broadcaster, which ‘‘freezes’’ and must be manually rebooted. Members discussed obtaining a second Charter cable box as a possible remedy to reduce on-air interruptions.

Recording of local events was raised as a continuing activity: committee members said basketball games are already being recorded and that spring concerts are on the plans list for recording. No public comments or complaints were reported during the session.

Procedurally, the committee approved the meeting agenda (motion by Kay Marose, seconded by Neil Whiting) and approved the Aug. 19, 2024 minutes (motion by Neil Whiting, seconded by Kay Marose). The committee set its next meeting for Feb. 10, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. and adjourned at 5:38 p.m. on a motion by Marose with Whiting seconding.
