Grain Valley aldermen adopt two zoning ordinances, unanimously approve conditional liquor license

The Grain Valley Board of Aldermen approved two zoning ordinances and conditionally approved a liquor license at its June 22 regular meeting.
The board adopted Bill No. B26-05 on second reading and approved it as Ordinance No. 2486 by a 4-0 roll-call vote. The ordinance rezones approximately 8.92 acres from C-2 (Central Business District) to M-1 (Light Industrial District).
The board also took up Bill No. B26-09, which was read by title. Alderman Jim Myers moved to approve the second reading and adopt the bill as Ordinance No. 2490; the motion passed 4-0. City staff noted that the change would convert two existing houses in Lot Two of Risinger Hills Subdivision to commercial use and that new development would follow the same design requirements as adjacent projects.
On business licensing, the board approved a motion to authorize a liquor license for McKenzie Beverage Group LLC dba Main Street Social pending receipt of outstanding items required for the state inspection process. City staff explained the state conducts inspections only after renovations are finished; the board’s approval is conditional on completion of those outstanding items.
Other procedural business included approval of the consent agenda and routine staff reports. The meeting closed with a brief board report that work on a north-side water tower is expected to begin in mid to late July and with Mayor Bob Headley presenting City Administrator Ken Murphy recognition for 20 years of service.
