The Drummond Town Council noted an open council seat in the parks portfolio and discussed municipal options for managing fireworks at its Feb. 18 meeting. Mayor Gail Leeper said she will raise the fireworks issue while attending the Executive Forum in Helena Feb. 26–28 to seek guidance about municipal authority and liability.
Council Member McLure said she does not favor issuing permits for fireworks but suggested limiting allowed times on private property to key holidays such as the Fourth of July and New Year’s Eve. Council members discussed protecting residents with disabilities and animals, and agreed that any violations should be reported to law enforcement rather than addressed by town staff.
Council members discussed notifying residents by mail before adopting any local rules and suggested involving representatives from the Sheriff’s Office and the Fire Department at any future forum or public meeting on the subject. The council scheduled its next regular meeting for March 18, 2025 and adjourned at 7:32 p.m.
