Drummond council delays decision on Fish, Wildlife & Parks boat-access agreement

Council members discussed the Fish, Wildlife & Parks Fishing Boat Access Agreement during the Nov. 19 meeting and initially expressed that they did not wish to renew the contract at the current terms. Mayor Gail Leeper summarized historical park expenditures and told the council that the town had signed a two-year extension to the contract for negotiation purposes.
Mayor Leeper asked each council member for their position; the record shows Council President McLure said she would not renew, Council Member Clute said no, Council Member O'Dell said no, and Council Member Stuart was absent. Council Member McLure made a motion not to renew the FWP Fishing Boat Access Agreement, seconded by Council Member O'Dell, and the motion was briefly on the table and recorded as having support.
Town Attorney McGill advised caution: she suggested the council should not finalize a vote without input from the parks person and recommended waiting to take formal action until that person could participate. Following that advice the council members who had moved and seconded the motion rescinded their action and instructed staff to place the item on the Dec. 17 agenda so Council Member Stuart can participate.
The council did not take a final renewal action on the FWP agreement on Nov. 19; the item will return to the council list for further consideration.
