Midland Trail Elementary will be ready to occupy but exterior work will continue, superintendent says

Superintendent Warfel told the Fayette County Schools board that Midland Trail Elementary will be ready for students to occupy at the start of the school year, though exterior work such as landscaping and playground installation will continue after occupancy.
Warfel said interior systems are complete and cooks will receive training on the new stainless-steel kitchen equipment on Aug. 6. He described the kitchen finishes as high-end, saying they are “about $800 a square foot.”
The superintendent said officials intend to prioritize getting students into classrooms even if some outdoor amenities are not yet finished. He said district leaders expect to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony in late September or early October and that School Board Authority member Andy Neptune requested photos showing how projects at Anstead and Divide have transformed older coal-fired facilities into modern buildings.
No change orders, contract approvals, or budget votes were recorded during the open session portion of the meeting.
