Communications council approves ECB request for Taylor Tower and hears radio-system updates

The Sheboygan County Communications Council approved an Educational Communications Board request for access to the Taylor Tower after a motion by Matt Greenwood and a second from Jon Kuhlow; the motion carried, according to the minutes.
At the start of the meeting the council approved the minutes from its April 15, 2026 meeting on a motion by Greenwood and second by Kuhlow. The meeting adjourned on a motion by Eric Montellano, seconded by Greenwood.
During updates, Chris Lewiniski provided a county IT update while Greenwood provided a city IT update. Chairman Brian Umble reported changes to the radio system: a new key loader has been ordered and the interoperability box is nearly complete. Umble also gave an ANR tower update and said there was no change in primary and secondary EOC communications capabilities.
On regional coordination, Umble said work is ongoing to determine why the Sheboygan/Manitowoc channel is not functioning; Ozaukee County showed no change and Washington County has not yet provided an expected radio. Umble said he will follow up with Washington County, Sheboygan County Fire Chiefs, and MABAS Sheboygan County.
During public comment Greenwood said the city will investigate two-tone alerting for its stations. The council set its next meeting for Oct. 21, 2026, and the minutes were submitted by Recording Secretary Jason Liermann and Chairman Brian Umble.
