The Mashpee Select Board voted unanimously July 13 to approve a joint petition from NSTAR/Eversource Energy and Verizon New England to install one new joint-use pole (34/9.25) in the Route 151 right-of-way to increase system reliability.
The petition, filed as No. 23782915, was read into the record at the start of a public hearing. Julie Longer, who identified herself as representing Eversource, told the board the work is aerial, would not create an intrusive construction footprint and is intended to “increase reliability to Route 151 Nathan Ellis Highway and Frank E. Hicks Drive in Mashpee.” She said the companies are coordinating with town officials to schedule the work.
Board members heard a brief public remark that the pole would enhance coverage at the town’s new police station. After questions from the board about location and impacts, a motion to approve the petition as presented was made and seconded and carried by voice vote.
The approval authorizes the utilities to proceed with required permitting and scheduling with town staff; no start date was specified at the meeting.
The petition packet was available at the town manager’s office, the board noted. The board closed the hearing after the vote and moved on to the next agenda item.
