Drummond council weighs park rules, orders floodplain ordinance draft; extends speed‑study area

At its March 18 meeting the Town of Drummond Council discussed a cluster of local infrastructure and public‑safety concerns, including park management, road conditions related to fiber‑optic construction, and required floodplain ordinance updates.

The council noted Drummond was awarded a 2025 DNRC tree‑planting grant. Members discussed repeated campground violations—food being left for animals, a dried corn pile left on the boat access ramp—and debated shortening the current five‑night maximum stay to three or four nights to reduce the risk of urban camping. Council members also discussed installing additional cameras at the campground and considered purchasing an in‑memory bench for late Council Member Carla Stuart.

On transportation issues, the council approved Montana Department of Transportation's request to extend a Granite County speed study on I‑90 to include mile markers 148–155. Council members asked Public Works Director Harrington to arrange an in‑person inspection with Blackfoot representatives after damage and packing issues were reported in alleyways where Blackfoot's fiber‑optic crews have been working; the council asked that Blackfoot use packer trucks to properly compact repairs.

The council instructed Town Attorney McGill to draft a required ordinance updating local floodplain mapping and regulations after a DNRC update; the implementation deadline discussed in the meeting is August 19, 2025. The council noted no further park‑seat applicants have come forward for the open parks council seat, which has been vacant for five months.

The council scheduled its next regular meeting for April 15, 2025 and adjourned at 8:57 p.m.
