Board tables several contested items and schedules follow-up meeting
Summary
The Concord School District board tabled motions on permanent-sub limits, preschool tuition rates, facility rental-fee increases and restoration of four elementary teacher positions, asking administration for updated spreadsheets and data to revisit decisions at the next meeting.
Several motions that raised complex tradeoffs were tabled for the board’s next meeting so staff can provide additional analysis and updated spreadsheets.
Items tabled include: a motion limiting the number of permanent substitutes by school level (board requested usage statistics from the superintendent), a proposal to revise preschool tuition rates (staff to present formula and numbers), a motion to increase facility rental-fee revenue projection (staff will model the impact of proposed rate changes), and a motion to restore four of six eliminated elementary classroom positions (the board requested updated class-size allocations and placement proposals).
Board members repeatedly asked staff to produce a consolidated spreadsheet that shows the cumulative impact of cuts and restorations on the tax-rate projection. Staff told members they would provide the requested figures at the next meeting.
The board adjourned and scheduled a follow-up session for 5:30 p.m. the next day to finalize outstanding items before budget adoption.
