The Port Richey CRA board reviewed three proposals for a mural on the restroom wall facing the road at Olsner Park and directed artists to adjust designs to better match the city’s new signage and a brighter palette.
The Cultural Arts Committee recommended a $5,000 proposal for a single bathroom‑wall mural, a $20,500 wraparound concept that would cover additional walls, and a $4,500 option described as more colorful and modern. Board members questioned whether a vintage “postcard” aesthetic fit upcoming city signage and asked for a more contemporary direction where appropriate.
One board member noted concerns about durability and the condition of the wall and underlying wood; staff said Public Works would prepare the surface and that artists include UV sealant to protect murals. The artist joined the meeting and said renderings could be adjusted: “Anything can be updated and adjusted to style whatever fonts, colors, you know, you desire.”
Board direction: staff and the CAC will provide the artist with the city’s new sign artwork and ask for revised, brighter concepts that balance history (Pelican/Stilt House imagery) with a modern, coastal palette. The board did not vote to award a contract or commit funds beyond the CAC recommendation; it asked staff to return with revised renderings and any contract terms for final approval.
What’s next: Revised artwork will be submitted to the CAC and then returned to the CRA board for a follow‑up decision.
