River Ridge hears NPDES update and agrees to assist on storm-surge resilience planning

Johnson Engineering representative Mark Zordan presented the Lee County NPDES Permit FLS000035-004 Cycle 4 Year 7 Annual Report, which Lee County reviewed and approved and which will be submitted to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection before the Nov. 1, 2024 deadline. Zordan said permit renewal timing is uncertain, so reporting will continue into Year 8.
Separately, Eric Long described storm-surge risks and a resilience action plan under consideration for Pelican Sound. Long said a topographic model for a hypothetical Hurricane Milton scenario showed a 10–12 foot surge could flood 45%–55% of the community and called for proactive planning, an advisory/review panel and multi-agency coordination that could take up to a decade.
Long asked the CDD to designate a board representative and staff or engineering representative to help coordinate as needed; the board reached consensus that Mr. Long and newly appointed supervisor Keith Merrill will assist and that District Engineer Charlie Krebs is authorized to help as necessary. Mr. Pires noted Army Corps concepts have been presented in Collier County should funding become available.
