The Tonto Basin Elementary District Governing Board on June 8 accepted the resignation of substitute teacher Michelle Cooper (effective May 31, 2026), authorized a new 32-hour-per-week regular-education paraprofessional position (158-day calendar) at an estimated total cost of about $43,881 including benefits, and awarded the district's biennial financial compliance audit contract to Advisent Assurance LLP.
Board Member Laci Sopeland moved to approve the personnel actions; Board Member Shawna Morris seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The board was told the paraprofessional position will be funded from the M&O contingency, which will reduce available contingency toward the stated goal of roughly $100,000 remaining after proposed hires.
The personnel report said Amy Page would move from a classroom teacher role to a paraprofessional role and that two paraprofessional positions opened by the resignations of Cheryl Lewis and McKayla Taylor will be available for hiring. Principal Cody Riding will review current paraprofessional duties and determine deployment; interviews for the maintenance/custodial position were scheduled for June 10 with five applicants (one applicant later accepted another job).
Board Member Wendy Neil moved to award RFP 2526-001-2728 for biennial audit services to Advisent Assurance LLP; Robin Holt seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. Board members noted the district is required to hire an outside firm for the financial compliance audit and that the contract will cover audit periods cited in the agenda (covering FY24/25 with potential renewal for FY26/27 and FY27/28).
The board also approved routine consent items including accounts payable and payroll vouchers, minutes from May 11, 2026, a $50 sports banner sponsorship from Tyler and Monique Cline, and financials by general consent. During non-agenda public comment, Mr. Ketchem said work on the school's cooling systems is ongoing, that temporary cooling from the School Facility Board is expected before school starts, and that project completion is projected for November.
The board adjourned at 4:10 p.m.
