MSD Shakamak board names 2026 officers and approves multiple personnel moves

The MSD Shakamak Schools Board elected its 2026 leadership slate and approved a batch of personnel and administrative actions at its Jan. 14 meeting.

The board elected a president for the 2026 term by voice vote and also confirmed a vice president and Jeremiah as secretary. Members appointed Ian Matthews as the district’s legislative liaison for the 2026 short session and approved Jennifer Marcus as board treasurer. The board also set its regular meeting schedule to the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. for 2026.

On personnel, the board voted to accept a resignation (announced in the meeting) and to terminate Keisha Flanders from a part-time evening custodian position after Dr. Smith presented an annotated summary and a motion. The board approved hiring Jeffrey Burn as maintenance director and approved transferring John Williams from the cafeteria to a part-time evening custodian role. The board also approved BA Shippen as a volunteer assistant for the high school girls basketball program.

The board approved a leave of absence for instructional assistant Jennifer Hart, allowing her to retain responsibilities for the elementary newspaper and to finish training hours required for preschool-assistant credentials. The board also approved an increase to substitute teacher pay; the motion on the record raised daily pay for standard substitutes to $75 per day and maintained $100 per day for licensed teachers.

Other routine business approved included minutes from the Dec. 18, 2025 meeting, claims and payroll vouchers, a 2026 prepayment claim resolution, and retention of property-tax services through Policy Analytics.

The meeting closed after routine reports and congratulations to students and staff.
