Fire department reports sharp uptick in calls; zoning office reports more online permit activity

A fire department representative noted three staff anniversaries and said the department received a $3,170 grant from the Ohio Department of Public Safety Division of EMS. The department reported 62 responses in June, with fire runs up 68% and EMS runs up 21% compared with the same time last year; overlapping runs increased 133% (28 overlapping runs in six months). The department also said turnout time averaged 1 minute, 40 seconds, below the 90th-percentile benchmark of 2 minutes, 39 seconds.
Staff reported three inspections performed in the month (47 year-to-date) and two outstanding inspections where owners have not consented to access. Officials said the township's tornado siren remains out while replacement parts are ordered and pledged a community test and update once repairs are complete. An AED box was installed and will be wired and powered within a day or two; trustees thanked donors and volunteers who helped place the unit in an ADA-compliant location.
The zoning official reported 48 permit applications so far this year, with 39 approved (81%) and about $7,895 in permit fees collected to date. Since moving to online submissions in May, 20 of 31 recent applications were filed online (about 65%), which staff said has sped turnaround times and produced nine same-day approvals in May and June. Zoning staff said they will tackle new bridge construction, data centers and telecommunications topics in upcoming monthly meetings and plan two BZA hearings in mid-August.
Trustees took no formal votes on public-safety staffing or zoning policy at the meeting but asked staff to proceed with planned applications and to submit resurfacing estimates to county engineers where relevant.
