The Olivette City Planning Commission unanimously approved May 21 a site-plan and community-design petition for a rear deck at 9408 Grandview Drive that includes portions higher than 4 feet above grade.
Carlos Trejo, director of the Department of Planning and Community Design, said the deck sits on a deep property in the Indian Meadows subdivision where the backyard drops in grade; because code requires commission approval for deck sections that exceed 4 feet, the application was brought forward for review. Staff presented photos, property maps and silhouette diagrams and told the commission they did not anticipate negative impacts to adjacent neighbors given the setbacks and topography.
Commissioner Petrie Powell moved to authorize approval of the petition as presented (memorandum dated 05/21/2026) subject to staff conditions; Tim Spiegelglass seconded. The motion passed 4–0. Staff said the project is already in the permit-review process and staff will notify the applicant of the commission action.
A commissioner noted other properties in the subdivision already have decks above 4 feet and staff confirmed that was visible in the submitted imagery. The commission did not impose additional conditions beyond the items noted in the staff memorandum.
